ABOUT ME

Creativity, responsibility, adaptability

Theodosis Malamas was born in Athens in 1963. His professional career began in cinema and television production and evolved into a journey spanning directing, editing, on-air promotion, radio, advertising, teaching and entrepreneurship.

He studied at the Lykourgos Stavrakos School of Film and Television, specialising in Directing, Cinematography and Editing, and later studied Electronics at the Technological Educational Institute of Larissa – Lamia Branch. At the same time, he was already working on productions for ERT1 and ERT2, gaining experience with 16mm film and one-inch video.

TIMELINE

Milestones along the way

1981–1984

Studies & first productions

Lykourgos Stavrakos School. At the same time, assistant camera operator and assistant editor on productions for ERT2 and ERT1. He collaborated with G. Petritsis, S. Magoulas and others.

1987

From amateur “Adonis” 97.1 FM to STAR FM

Together with his flatmate, he founded the amateur radio station “Adonis” on 97.1 FM. After it closed, he joined Experimental Radio of Lamia, later STAR FM.

There he created a series of shows, including the monthly “Full Moon Tribute”, featuring his own scripts and music selections. Each edition explored a different travel destination through local music and a fictional story narrated by Malamas himself, while the characters were portrayed by film director Eugenia Oikonomou and Panos Angelopoulos, president of the Lamia Film Club.

His weekly programme “Riverboat AVRA” explored the Greek pop scene and featured interviews with songwriters and artists, among them Vangelis Germanos, Anna Vissi, Nikos Karvelas, Andreas Mikroutsikos, Sofia Vossou and others.

On cold winter nights with torrential rain, he held friendly Greek-versus-international music contests with the late Kostas Vennios, in the presence of station director Giorgos Dedousis, the station’s driving spirit. Even in the early hours, listeners would run to public telephone booths to dedicate songs to friends gathered elsewhere in the city or ask for the broadcast to continue.

1989–1990

Hellenic Air Force

Military service as assistant telecommunications supervisor, teletype technician and camera operator at a radar unit in Pelion, also filming operational exercises, as well as working as a crypto and communications technician for communications with Greek fighter aircraft, among other duties.

He directed the monthly current-affairs programme “The Roads of Europe”, travelling to Strasbourg and Brussels for location filming, journalistic interviews, round-table discussions and special features about a united Europe and its leading figures.

In cooperation with the European Parliament’s office in Athens, the completed programme was reproduced for broadcast by a network of private television stations throughout Greece.

TELEVISION

From editing to On Air Promotion

At ANT1 he worked on programme promotion, promos, station IDs, graphics and corporate identity. His work from this period included material for “Proinos Kafes”, “Club Sandwich”, the Group's satellite channels and advertising productions.

In 2004 he moved to ALPHA as Head of Trailers / On Air Promotion Director. He reorganised the department's workflow and production line, strengthening both the creative team and the strategy for promoting the channel's programming.

“A station's image is not a single trailer. It is the consistency of all the small creative decisions viewers see every day.”

POLITICAL & SOCIAL JOURNEY

From the TEI of Lamia to the South Athens constituency

His political involvement began in 1981, when, at the age of 18, he joined PASOK and voted for the first time.

During his student years, after attending Film School in Athens, from 1984 to 1988, he served as president of the students at the TEI of Lamia. He took a leading role in founding the Students’ Association and was active in PASP. As he recalls, together with fellow members he sought to run the association through direct democracy and an open-minded approach, advocating for students’ needs beyond party-political considerations.

In 2025, former students of the TEI of Lamia held a reunion after 40 years. In their shared recollection, the TEI of Lamia was a small “green Gallic village”: PASP retained its leading position even as DAP-NDFK gained strength nationally across the TEIs.

After completing his studies and military service, he returned to Athens and became actively involved in local PASOK organisations in Pangrati, supporting and promoting PASOK’s campaign during parliamentary elections. He subsequently participated in local events organised by the movement until 2020, when he became seriously ill. In 2024, he occasionally helped with the campaign of Alexis Sotiropoulos, then a candidate and now the mayor of Vyronas.

In 2026 he returned to active political involvement with PASOK – Movement for Change in the B3 South Athens constituency, with Vyronas as a key point of reference and a particular focus on small and medium-sized businesses, the local market, single-parent families, large families and social cohesion, with particular attention to self-employed people with disabilities.
